For those of you who are unfamiliar, Pantone is the is the world-renowned authority on color. They have released their Spring 2013 color palette and I think you are going to love it. I do! These are the colors you will be seeing on fashion runways, in catalogs and on jewelry displays.
According to Pantone: “This season’s color palette emphasizes the need for balance, while at the same time allowing for individuality, self-expression and excitement.”
Here's a quick pick at some of the jewellery pieces from my "Colors of Spring 2013" collection
This year, the color forecast for spring and summer is "brights," bold shades of color such as orangeade orange, poppy red, geranium pink, canary yellow, etc.
If your taste runs to less rather than more, not to worry. You can still be "in fashion" without sacrificing your personal preference and taste. How? With accessories like jewelry, of course!
Try adding a necklace like "Sizzling Fuchsia” a boldshade of geranium (pink) to your jewelry box. Or, how about a take on spring's Tiffany (blue) like “Turquoise Summer." A small dose of a bold color is a way to be fashion savvy. A necklace with just the right amount of color such as A Touch of Sunlets you be "in" without getting too far out of your comfort zone.

When You Think of Handcrafted Jewellery If you are thinking macaroni necklaces and hippie style beaded earrings when you hear the term handcrafted jewellery, you have likely not spent any time at craft exhibitions and shows in the last few years. Handcrafted jewellery has really come into its own with a variety of different metals, styles, semi-precious gems and stones as well as non-traditional jewellery materials. Handcrafted jewellery is often a one of a kind item, making this an ideal gift idea for that hard to buy for person on your Christmas or birthday list. Handcrafted jewellery also is in high demand for bridal parties and special events as the wearer is sure to draw attention and comments on the unique jewellery they are wearing, and at Blingz the Thing I offer a free no obligation bridal consultation to help you decide on the perfect jewellery for your wedding.
The internet has really brought handcrafted jewellery into is own. Artisans and jewellers from around the world are able to market their creations through the internet, literally entering into a global market with just the expense of hosting a website and uploading some digital photographs. Typically the websites provide a good cross section of what we have to offer, but also allows you to communicate regarding custom designed pieces you may be interested in having made.
Many handcrafted jewellery items feature items such as semi-precious stones,Swarovski crystals, fire-polished crystals, sterling silver, mixed metals and sometimes even other odds and ends. Often this in itself creates the one of a kind quality of the jewellery as the materials themselves are not available in stores or in mass produced jewellery items. In addition I can also use some of those odds and ends pieces you have in your jewellery box such as the single earrings, hopelessly bunched up gold and silver chains and even the rings that don't fit anymore and turn them into unique and new creations you can wear with pride. Handcrafted jewellery is both functional as well as beautiful and can typically be matched with traditional jewellery to give a very polished and high fashion appearance.
Some of us handcrafted artisans will also complete custom orders. This is a wonderful way to design your own jewellery with the help of someone that can provide ideas, assistance and typically will not charge as much as a custom designed piece from a jeweller. At Blingz the Thing I work with you to design that perfect piece made just for you and your budget.
Jewellery of any kind makes a fashion statement. But the fashion statement can be made more unique by the choice of jewellery you choose. Through the ages, jewellery has been a symbol fashion and romance. Wearing a beautiful piece of jewellery is always an addition that seems to complete your outfit for any occasion. The choice of jewellery varies from person to person. Some like wearing diamonds, while others might like simple and elegant chain and pendant. Different people have different tastes and budgets, so to meet these demands Blingz the Thing offers a variety of styles and price ranges to choose from.
Everybody wants to own some piece of jewellery. But nobody likes wearing a common ornament. Imagine buying a new piece for some special occasion and finding out that the same thing is being worn by five others. So along with exquisite styles, the demand for uniqueness is also growing. Unique and personalized jewellery are often more in demand than its counterparts. Uniqueness has its own value and hence the demand for trendy, stylish yet one of a kind jewellery is huge.
To meet this demand, handcrafted jewellery is probably the perfect choice. These jewelries are often personalized and unique. They have a wide variety of styles and are best to meet the demands of different individuals with varied tastes and preferences. Be it rings, earrings, necklaces, pendants or bracelets, handcrafted jewellery adds a different touch and reflects your individual styles and tastes
Once considered funky and targeted to a limited market, the handcrafted jewellery has come a long way to become the latest buzz in the fashion mainstream. It has been re-invented as artisan jewellery and it appeals to a broader market of affluent buyers attracted to its uniqueness and limited availability. As an article of ostentation or for sending across a message of love and passion, personalized handcrafted jewellery has no substitutes. It can even be easily available through online stores, customized to highlight your style statement in a way that would not go unnoticed. The arrival of handcrafted jewellery trends with all these exclusive benefits has really redefined fashion in the present day.
The accessory can make an outfit stand out or provide just the right amount of dazzle to match the style you hope to project. One type of accessory you can consider is a piece of unique handmade jewellery.
Imagine a strapless gown that you found in a little shop. How could you make it better? Consider adding a necklace or perhaps a pair of earrings to the outfit. Depending on the style of the item you add, you can change the entire look of a simple outfit. When you consider a special piece of jewellery, finding handmade items can be your best choice because the chance of another person having the same piece of jewellery is remote. Instead of having the mass produced bracelet that everyone is wearing, you can find an unique handmade piece that reflects your unique style as well.
A unique piece of handmade jewellery is often made from unique materials as well. AtBlingz the Thing you'll find fresh water pearls, Swarovski crystals, sterling silver, mixed metals, semi-precious stones, hand blown glass, and vintage beads in our jewellery. Another option you might consider is to have us create a special design just for you. Citrine, the perfect stone for Summer When we think of summer, images of colorful clothes, sunshine, and laughter come to mind. We think of hope for all the good times we will get to share with friends and family as weather changes from cold and dreary to warm and cheery. Jewellery connoisseurs think in terms of finding fashionable pieces that are as fun and versatile to wear as the other accessories in their wardrobe. And so, they choose citrine because it fulfills all the requirements that make it a good choice for summer wear.
Citrine is a variety of quartz that has many features that make it perfect for warmer weather. It’s affordable, durable, and extremely versatile. This beautiful gemstone comes in colors ranging from lemony yellow, to brighter golden hues, as well as oranges, browns and even reds. It’s most common color, however, is yellow. Therefore, its adaptable to a wide range of color palettes when thinking in terms of wardrobes. Yellow, which is itself a very cheerful and notable color, blends beautifully with popular and vibrant summer colors like blues, greens, and even tropical hues and patterns. Yet it still looks nice with the more subdued earth tones of browns, grays, and muted greens.
Furthermore, since citrine comes in such a wide variety of shapes and sizes, it offers many options for the different pieces of jewellery it can be used in. It can easily be made into something as delicate as a beautiful citrine tear-drop necklace, or something as bulky as a chunky citrine ring or bracelet.
One of the most appealing features of citrine is its durability. The fact that it is so resilient makes it a top choice among those looking to expand their jewellery collections. It’s a safe choice to wear to outdoor gatherings like picnics, weddings or graduation parties because it’s hard to scratch or chip.
Of course, for many people, their jewellery has to be as versatile as it is durable, especially in today’s economy. Citrine is no slacker in this category either. It’s elegant, yet casual and so interchangeable. Women can easily get away with wearing a beautiful citrine necklace to the office, yet continue to sport it after work at more casual events.
It’s been said for years that citrine can be associated with self-confidence, light-heartedness, and self-esteem. It certainly makes sense. In going through my jewelry photos from the last few years, it's clear to me that I have no style. And by "no style" I just mean that there's no one defining theme among the different pieces I've designed over the years. There are so many types of pieces I like to create that I've never settled on one ... well, style.
Some people focus on creating with semi-precious stones. Which I use.
Others focus only on Swarovski crystals. Which I also use.
Some love pearls...which I definitely do.
Others only work in metal. Again...I love to work with metals.
So where is my niche?
I think maybe in the next few months I’ll see if I actually have one. :) Maybe it's the Attention Deficit Disorder talking, but I really think that being eclectic is something I need to embrace. If I work with stones one day and freshwater pearls the next, maybe that's okay. And who says stones and Freshwater pearls can't go together?
One thing I know...making jewelry is my passion, it drives me and inspires me and does it really matter if I have a particular style…….
Describe your artistic style. My artistic style honestly varies from day to day. I see pieces and think about what best will make that bead come alive. I make pieces for the girly girl with lots of sparkle and glam, as well as pieces for the modern woman that will complement any outfit from day to night. I like to make pieces that are unique and stylish. I am continually growing and learning different techniques to add into my designs.
What inspires you as a designer-artist? I cannot really pin down what inspires me to create each unique piece. Many times, there’s something about the colors, shapes and layout of my materials that just speaks to me: I have always loved to do artistic things, and with the enticing world of beads, and their myriad of shapes, colors, and textures, the design possibilities are endless. I am always thinking about new ways to put designs together so that each component is enhanced by those around it, and with the intention that each piece of jewelry is unique as the person wearing it. "I'll see certain colors and shapes and I just have to put them together!"
What materials do you most enjoy working with? I really, really enjoy working with Swarovski crystals because I love creating things that add a bit of sparkle. And, like any other designer, I also enjoy working with semi precious stones, glass beads and metals.
Do you have an artistic background?
My artistic background comes from my family. My Mom is one of the most creative people I know. I Would watch her for countless hours designing and sewing all our horse show outfits , she did folk-art painting, flower arrangements, scrap booking, interior design sewing everything herself and that’s only a few of her many talents. My Pop-pa (Grandfather) was into model trains he designed all the scenery himself. He also did knotting, model ships, and crest painting. My Aunt is an Interior designer, who also does photography and drawings. I would make different chests and boxes restore old furniture, I’d make hair bows and broaches. Now besides designing and making jewelry, I love to scrapbook, draw, paint, flower arrangements and other home accessories. I have a basement full of crafts that only someone with a passion for making and creating things would love and appreciate. So I have always been into crafting something or another.
What other hobbies do you have? I enjoy all sorts of crafting, gardening, and spending time with my family.
Any advice for aspiring jewelry-artists? The advice that I can give to other aspiring jewelry artists is to just follow your passion. Make what inspires you and then go out there and sell, sell, sell. Put yourself out there and just have a fun time doing so! Just don’t give up.
The crazy life I live What to write about ...... that is the question???? or even where to start as writing has never been my strong point.....I get so many ideas in my head and I don't know where to start..... so for now I think I am going to go work on my new website but don't worry I will be back cause I plan on covering topic's such as what are base metals? the different Swarovski crystal coatings? current accessory trends, and of course all the updates and new designs added to website.
